What is SnapChat
Simply put, it’s a way of posting a picture of anything – but also being able to put an expiry time on it. For example, you could take a picture of your dog – “snapchat” it – and send it to your friends but only allow it to last for 10 seconds. After that, it’s gone – and they can’t view it again.
There has been a lot of concern over people posting inappropriate sexual pictures – but the company have said this doesn’t appear to be why people are using it.
If you post something on Facebook or Twitter or a Blog – it’s theoretically there forever more. With SnapChat – you send it, and it’s gone after the time limit you set on it being viewed for. So it’s sort of a way of posting updates on what you’re doing, how you’re feeling, what you’re eating, who you’re with and so on – but not having that exist for the rest of time! It’s there, it’s what you’re doing at that time, then it’s gone… no internet search will find it again.
Can it be used for business purposes? Probably – it’s another social platform after-all – so it could be as big as FB/Twitter/Pinterest etc, but you really should have an idea about internet marketing before considering how to use the tools available to you. That way, you can maximise the help they can give you.
